Golfers and community supporters are invited to take part in the Chuck Gesme Memorial Shootout, a two-day tournament on July 17–18, 2026, at Pokegama Golf Course in Grand Rapids. The event honors the memory of Chuck “Gismo” Gesme while raising funds to support the Itasca Friendship Club and its mission of creating opportunities for individuals of all abilities to build friendships, develop independence, and enjoy meaningful community experiences.

More than a golf tournament, the Shootout is a celebration of community, generosity, and the lasting impact one person can have on those around them. Organizers hope to bring together golfers, sponsors, volunteers, and local businesses for a weekend that reflects the values Chuck embodied throughout his life: friendship, inclusion, and giving back.

“This tournament celebrates Chuck’s passion for golf, friendship, and community,” said tournament organizer Matt Prokop. “Every team that participates and every sponsor that gets involved helps create opportunities for people in our area through the Itasca Friendship Club. That’s what makes this event so special.”

The tournament will feature a partner match-play format, along with contests, prizes, and a variety of opportunities for participants to enjoy a weekend of golf while supporting a worthwhile cause. The $500 team entry fee includes golf, cart, range access, tournament activities, and prizes.

Registration is now open, and organizers encourage teams to sign up early. Sponsorship opportunities are also available for businesses and organizations looking to support the event and invest in programs that make a difference in the lives of local individuals and families.

Proceeds from the tournament will be contributed to the Chuck Gesme Memorial (Gismo) Fund at the Grand Rapids Area Community Foundation. The fund carries forward Chuck’s legacy of community support by providing annual grants to nonprofit organizations that enhance quality of life throughout the Greater Itasca area.
