If you want to participate in the incredible 250 mile, 36-hour journey of three local community members who are raising money for eight area nonprofits, Saturday, August 3, 2024, is the day! The Great Itasca Giveback has already raised over $40,000 for eight area nonprofits.
The Great Itasca Giveback is made up of Phill Hermel, a Deer River teacher, Dr. Simon Lick, a Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital physician, and School Resource Officer Troy Scott of the Grand Rapids Police Department. Phill is rollerblading, Dr. Lick is cycling, and Troy is running. They will start at 7am Friday morning, August 2nd, at the Tall Timber Days event.
Their return journey starts on Saturday, August 3, when they leave International Falls at 5am. They have short stops at Riley’s Cannibal Junction at 11am, Blueberry Bowl at 12:30pm and the VFW in Deer River at 1:30pm. You are encouraged to join them at 3:30pm at Florio’s in Cohasset for the “Miracle Mile,” where the whole community can participate in a mile of the journey.
The three are expected to reach the finish line at the Tall Timber Days big tent at 6:30pm and at 7pm there will be a presentation of checks to the eight nonprofits who will receive the proceeds from the fundraiser.
You can support this fundraiser by donating online through the Grand Rapids Area Community Foundation (GRACF) gracf.org or in person or by mail at 350 NW 1st Avenue, Suite E, Grand Rapids, Minnesota. You can also support this fundraiser at the Tall Timber Days tent from 7-8pm on Saturday August 3rd because 100% of beer sales in the tent will go directly to the Great Itasca Giveback thanks to C & L Distributing and Hotel Rapids.
