Local generosity has once again stepped up to make a difference for cancer patients receiving care at Essentia Health–Deer River. Thanks to two successful fundraisers, the Deer River Healthcare Volunteers (DRHC Volunteers) raised more than $7,000 to provide gift cards to patients undergoing cancer treatment.
The fundraising effort included an art auction at the MacRostie Art Center and the Volunteers’ annual bake sale, raising over $5,000. The Herreid Deer River Fund, managed through the Grand Rapids Area Community Foundation, offered a matching donation of $2,000, which brought the total raised to over $7,000.
“This outpouring of community support is just incredible,” said Gwenn Smith, organizer of the fundraiser. “When people understand that their dollars go directly to helping neighbors who are struggling through cancer treatment, they give generously. It really shows the heart of the Deer River community.”
The Deer River Healthcare Volunteers support programs that improve the health and well-being of patients in the Deer River area. Through fundraising and community partnerships, the volunteers provide direct assistance to those facing health challenges and ensure resources are available where they are most needed.
