McGregor Lakes Area Foundation awards $11,000 in grants
In a testament to the power of community support, the McGregor Lakes Area Foundation (MLAF) proudly announces the allocation of $11,000 in grants to five deserving local organizations. With a steadfast commitment to fostering growth and resilience within the McGregor Lakes Area Community, these grants signify not only financial assistance but also a vote of confidence in the vital work carried out by these organizations.
The McGregor Lakes Area Foundation, whose funds are invested and managed by the Grand Rapids Area Community Foundation, awarded $11,000 in grants in their 2023 fall grant cycle to five McGregor area community organizations. The Aitkin County Rivers and Lakes Fair received a grant to support fair activities. The ANGELS of McGregor (Area Neighbors Giving Elderly Live-In Services) received a grant to support their newsletter, a lunch and learn program and an intergenerational cooking class. The Friends of the McGregor Area Library received a grant in support of providing early literacy and lifelong learning for young children. The McGregor School District received grant funds to upgrade equipment for their Big Sandy Water Institute, and to support two 6tth grade field trips; one to Long Lake and one to the Sudan Mines. The Riverwood Foundation received funding to purchase books for the Riverwood Read Program.
The McGregor Lakes Area Foundation’s mission is to support the greater McGregor lakes area through ongoing education, environmental, and social areas. Grants are provided to organizations that demonstrate a clear commitment to the sustainability and long-term viability of the lakes community. The MLAF service area is similar to the McGregor School District with boundaries of Jacobson (N), Wright (E), McGrath (S) and Highway 169 (W).
