Get ready to reel in the big ones while making a difference at the Poke and Pole Pike Tourney, a unique ice-fishing event aimed at raising funds for local veterans. Hosted by The Great Itasca Giveback, this tournament promises an exciting day on the ice with incredible prizes, camaraderie, and a meaningful cause.
Set for Thursday, January 18, the tournament runs from sunrise until 6 p.m. and welcomes two-person teams to fish any Minnesota lake. Participants will vie to catch the biggest four northern pike per team, with weigh-ins taking place promptly at 6 p.m. at Cohasset City Hall. Teams are reminded to follow all state regulations for their chosen lake and area.
The stakes are high, with prizes that are sure to thrill any angler. First place will take home a $3,000 package featuring a Clam X-500 shelter, a StrikeMaster lithium ice auger, a Vexilar FLX-28, and a Heat Hog heater. Second place winners will enjoy a $3,000 vacation package, including a four-night stay for six at Lakewood Lodge, pontoon access, and a six-hour guided fishing trip. Third place offers a $1,000 prize package of two Staton spears and two Tempt-Lures Decoys.
Additionally, the first 30 veterans to arrive at the weigh-in will receive a free commemorative hat as a token of appreciation for their service. Importantly, every dollar raised will benefit the Itasca Veterans Crisis Fund and the Grand Rapids Yellow Ribbon Citizens Committee; fifty percent of the proceeds go to each organization. These organizations provide vital support to local veterans and their families.
“Go fishing, be intentional, have some fun and you have the opportunity to help veterans,” says Phill Hermel of the Great Itasca Giveback, “We are hoping to have 50 two-person teams and want to encourage people to sign up by January 11th. You can find out more information through our Great Itasca Giveback Facebook page.”
The $150 entry fee per team includes a meal that evening at the Cohasset City Hall. Tickets for the Poke and Pole Pike Tourney are available at three convenient locations: Hotel Rapids in Grand Rapids, Bear Ridge Pizza in Cohasset, and Blueberry Bowl and Fred’s Bait in Deer River. Don’t miss your chance to cast a line for a cause, enjoy a day of friendly competition, and support those who’ve served our country.
