The McGregor Lakes Area Foundation (MLAF) continues to make a meaningful impact by investing in the people and programs that strengthen the region. In its 2024 fall grant cycle, MLAF awarded $8,000 in grants to five local organizations whose work reflects the foundation’s dedication to education, environmental stewardship, and community enrichment. These grants highlight not only financial support but also the shared belief in a thriving future for the McGregor Lakes Area.

The McGregor Lakes Area Foundation, with funds invested and managed by the Grand Rapids Area Community Foundation, distributed six grants totaling $8,000 to organizations serving the McGregor community.

McGregor Public School received two grants: $1,500 for its “Safe Swim” program, which promotes water safety skills, and another $1,500 to support an enriching 6th-grade educational experience through trips to the Soudan Mines and International Wolf Center. The East Central Regional Library – McGregor branch was awarded $1,000 to enhance its community programming, while the Riverwood Foundation received $1,000 for “Riverwood Reads,” a health-focused literacy initiative.

The Aitkin County Rivers and Lakes Fair received $500 to continue its environmental education efforts, and Something Cool, Inc. was granted $2,500 to install welcoming new visitor signage throughout the McGregor Lakes Area.

MLAF’s mission is to uplift the greater McGregor Lakes Area through support for educational, environmental, and social initiatives. Grants are awarded to projects that align with the long-term vitality and sustainability of the Lakes community. The foundation’s service area includes the McGregor School District and spans from Jacobson (north) to McGrath (south), Wright (east), and Highway 169 (west).
