Adam Johnson grew up playing hockey in Hibbing, Minnesota, and his talent and dedication took him to the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD), where he served as an assistant captain. He later played professionally, including with the Pittsburgh Penguins and other professional hockey leagues.
To honor Adam’s legacy, his loved ones established the Adam Johnson Memorial Fund at the Grand Rapids Area Community Foundation. This fund continues to support the passions and values that mattered most to Adam, including education and hockey.
Now, Hibbing High School seniors have a special opportunity to be part of Adam’s legacy. A $1,000 scholarship is available for a graduating senior from Hibbing High School who will be attending UMD and has a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Eligible students are encouraged to apply through the Grand Rapids Area Community Foundation website at gracf.org. Click “Apply for a Scholarship”, create an account, and complete the application under the Universal Scholarship section.
In addition to the scholarship, Adam’s loved ones will continue honoring his memory through events like the annual golf tournament, the Adam Johnson Classic, at Mesaba Country Club in Hibbing on May 17 and18.
If you’d like to support the Adam Johnson Memorial Fund, you can donate online at gracf.org by clicking “Donate” and selecting the fund. Donations can also be mailed or dropped off at the Grand Rapids Area Community Foundation, 350 NW 1st Avenue, Suite E, Grand Rapids, MN 55744.
Help spread the word and encourage eligible Hibbing High School students to apply for this meaningful scholarship in honor of Adam.
