Adam Johnson Memorial Fund Established

Adam Johnson grew up playing hockey in Hibbing, Minnesota, and was a promising player who went on to play hockey at the University of Minnesota-Duluth and became an assistant captain there.  After college he played professional hockey with the Pittsburg Penguins and was still playing professional hockey when his life was cut short due to a neck injury.  Adam was loved and admired by his family, friends, teammates, and coaches.  His hockey coaches have talked of Adam’s integrity and that he was not only an exceptional teammate, but a truly special person. The Grand Rapids Area Community Foundation’s Annual Grant Cycle opened July 15, 2024 and will end on September 1, 2024 at 11:59pm. The Great Itasca Giveback raises $54,500 for local nonprofits

After a challenging 250-mile journey that started on August 2nd and ended on August 3rd, the Great Itasca Giveback team of Officer Troy Scott, Teacher Phill Hermel and Dr. Simon Lick ended up raising $54,500 for eight local nonprofits!  The team’s original goal was $15,000 and they raised almost four times that amount. Nashwauk Area Community Fund Annual Grant Cycle Open September 1 – September 30

The Nashwauk Area Community Fund (NACF) is a community-based fund that provides discretionary grants to projects and initiatives in the Nashwauk area to improve the quality of life for local citizens.  The NACF grant cycle is open this year from September 1 through September 30.  This fund provides grants to 501(c)(3) and other not-for-profit organizations in the Nashwauk, Nashwauk Township, Keewatin, Buck Lake, Pengilly, Swan Lake and Goodland Township areas.
